We all have special objects with sentimental value and energetic importance, but do yours vibe out together or are they scattered around the house? Last weekend I decided to collaborate some of my treasures in one place which is known as creating an alter or a 'scared space'. A shrine can be be giving thanks or blessings to life, the earth, a particular god or for yourself to inspire and protect you. Anything that means something to you, you can create a shrine for... there are no rules.
First you must choose the sacred space for your shrine or altar. I chose the magical corner in my bedroom which gets the most sun and is also the home of my BrazilIan Prayer plants. These plants are amazing, they open in the day and close up at night. They are always changing and growing so i used this as the focus of my shrine. To always try to thrive and welcome change with an open heart and mind.
Its always a good idea to bring in some crystals. Give them a good clean with a sage stick or pop them in some brown rice overnight to clear away any unwanted energies. If you have lots of them then select ones which resonate with the energy you want to channel into your shrine. I went for Amethyst to focus my intuition; Rose Quartz to represent love and compassion and Dalmatian Jasper to help break down barriers and bring joy into my life. Most crystals will enhance any shrine so get them involved.
Some of the other treasures on my shrine include a blue ringing bell, a present from Cuba. The bell symbolises the need for me to speak my truth and act upon my instincts regardless of the situation. Another member of the shrine is my amazing super huge pinecone that I found in the garden of a magical lady symbolising a time of spiritual growth. I've got some vibrant red coral on there which was found on a hidden beach in Bali with my Boyfriend - it was the first time he had travelled out of Europe because of a huge fear of flying. If he can overcome that obstacle then I can overcome mine.
Good old Hanuman made it on with his successful wealthy aura - I'm hoping he will help me refine my direction and ambition. Also present is the hand of Maitreya representing the helping hand, reminding me to ask for help from others if needed.
Buddah is the focal point because he is pure love and light. And finally, I've got some Nag Champa on there as this scent resonates with my Yoga practice and reminds me of my travels around India. Its an all rounder for me and well worth a light if you haven't already.
Once you have made a shrine, take some time out now and then to sit in front of it, clear your mind and take in the energy you need from it. This can be a place which is just yours, a place to just sit and be. Smile and breathe. Reflect and heal and grow. Go make a shrine, you wont regret it!
